Timolol for Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension
Timolol brand names: Betimol, Istalol, Timoptic Ocudose, Timoptic Ocumeter
Timolol Uses
Timolol (pronunciation: tai·muh·laal) treats pressure inside the eye caused by glaucoma, ocular hypertension, hemangioma, and other eye diseases. Treating high pressure in the eye helps to prevent blindness.
Timolol belongs to the drug class called beta blocker. It works by blocking certain natural substances' effects on the eye and reducing the amount of fluid produced.
This medication is offered as timolol maleate and timolol hemihydrate. The difference between the two is only the non-active solution ingredients. Both medications function in the same way.
There is also a combination medication called timolol dorzolamide (also known by its brand name Cosopt).

Timolol is an eye drop medication. The typical dosage is 1 drop in each affected eye, twice daily. This may change depending on your responsiveness to the medication.
