Nebivolol (generic Bystolic) is part of a class of medications called beta-blockers. This class of medications work by slowing down the messages that are being sent to your heart. It does this by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors (hence the name beta blockers). By blocking this signal nebivolol helps the heart beat slower which helps to decrease blood pressure. Nebivolol also helps to 'relax' or widen your blood vessels which hels to lower your blood pressure making it easier for your heart to pump blood throughout your body.
