How Sitagliptin Works

Understanding how sitagliptin works begins with the body’s natural response to food.

When you eat, your body releases a hormone called GLP-1, which helps lower blood sugar levels by signaling the pancreas to produce more insulin and telling the brain you're full, which helps regulate appetite.

However, GLP-1 has a short lifespan in the bloodstream because it is quickly broken down by the DPP-4 enzyme.
